Miscellaneous Happenings

It's been fun watching all the bird activity since the weather has warmed up. Hubby got the camera out and took a few pics of them in the fountain out front.

He got this one just has it was taking flight.

A bird bath on the other side of the house.
Look who else was watching all the birdies playing.

We were babysitting our 2 yr. old granddaughter and she was so intriqued with the birds outside.

Then on Tuesday we had a fundraising banquet to support our local Women's Pregnancy Center. It supports girls in their decision to keep their babies and raise them or give them up for adoption. They get the medical care and emotional support they need at the center.
They were featuring a new film. It was like going to a movie premier...red carpet and all.

This is the film and book they were giving to everyone in attendance.

It is an annual affair and very well attended. The meal was incredible!
I'm on the right facing the camera. Hubby was having fun with the camera and snapping away.

They had beautiful flowers on the table in a popcorn bucket (remember we're at a movie premier) and a director's little film thing, that they do "Take One" with, sticking out of the plant.

It's so good for hubby and I to be involved in worthy causes. Takes the focus off of ourselves. There are so many worthy causes out there to get involved with! They are innumerable.
We do what we can to lend a helping hand. Even the smallest act of kindness is appreciated.
Let's not forget all those that are suffereing in Japan right now.
How's your week been?

Guest Bedroom

Hi Everyone! I hope your week is off to a good start. It's sunny and warm in SC today. Many different things are blooming right now.

Today I'm joining Marty for Tabletop Tuesday @A Stroll Thru Life and Kim @Savvy Southern Style for Wow us Wednesday.

This is one of our guest bedrooms. I love using rich colors when decorating. They're warm and vibrant.

I purchased this iron headboard a couple of years ago. I love the detailing on it.

I bought this scalloped harp table at an antique store in Rock Hill, NC a year ago. It was in such good condition and the price was right. (please ignore the cords....a necessary evil)

The vase of flowers match the flowers in the bedding and the paintings on the wall.

My sweet friend Ceekay sent me this beautiful little note card and I framed it.

This little settee has been around many years but serves a purpose. I like to have a place where guests can sit to put their shoes on , etc.

A couple of plates with flowers on them.

Here in the deep south, where temps. can get to over 100, it's comforting to have a ceiling fan in the room. I went with this one that had a victorian look.

The small prints on the wall were done by artist, Ann Taylor, who worked for Disney for many years. They picture a mother with her two daughters. Having two daughters of my own, I was drawn to them.

The room has a small "cubby hole" that has always had a small crib for the grandchildren. Our two year old granddaughter recently went into a regular bed and since she is the last grandchild, I put that away and moved an antique desk in it's place.

A second mirror is on the wall behind the door. Makes it convenient when there is more than one guest in the room, which is often the case.

On the other side of the bed is another antique table.

The Bombay is a newer piece that came from Hickory, NC. I'm so glad we can go there in a day to look at furniture when we are in the market for a piece.

The smaller table is an antique that houses a very old radio. It was built that way. It has the old buttons that car radios use to have.

It's a Motorola and has the old tubes in the back. Anyone remember these?

Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by today. Don't forget to pop over to Marty's and Kim's for lots of eye candy.

Highchair Makeover

Here's a project that I posted a while ago, but many of you have not seen it.

This first picture is almost 35 yrs. old. Our first daughter was celebrating her first birthday in the highchair that was given to me at a baby shower given in her honor. The plastic cover came with the chair. Three years later our second daughter sat in the same chair with a different cover that we bought. Since then two grand daughters have used it and one grandson.

This was the chair with a different vinyl cover that our grandson used. (It's very hard to find a cover for the old wooden chairs that have winged sides). When our fourth grandchild was born, Hubby and I started looking at the worn tray and decided to redo the chair and cover.

Out came the sewing machine . I was going to do the sewing and Hubby was going to do the sanding and painting. I started measuring and doing the seat cushion .

In this pic was cutting the sides of the back and the batting to give it some padding .

Meanwhile, Hubby was doing his part.... sanding the chair.

We decided to paint it with exterior satin black paint. ( Our dining room has a lot of black accents and that is where it usually sits.)

The transformation is starting to take place. We were so pleased with how it turned out and how inexpensive the project was. I got the material as a remnant that cost & 4 a yd. It didn't take much more than that.
Here it is without the tray.

With the tray.
I had to make ten ties for the cushions there were so many spindles to attach them to.

It co-ordinates well with the runners I made a couple a while back.

What have you been up to lately? I would love to see some of your projects.

Looking for Spring

My Rose from Valentine's Day was coming to it's end and I started thinking about Spring and Spring flowers.

Roses are such a beautiful and unique creation, aren't they!

In certain light they look like velvet.

So, I got myself busy and made a floral arrangement for the basket on my front door. I even added a butterfly to the handle. ( Michael's was selling the little clip on kind.)

My pansies were perking up after the cold winter we've had and my ornamental cabbages had a recent growth spurt. lol People either love these things or hate them. lol

I cleaned out the flower beds and hung this little bird house on a small hook.

My Japanese Tulip Tree's blooms are beginning to open.
Now all I need is for this dormant grass to turn green.
When we moved to SC, it was hard to get used to the grass turning to hay in the winter time. lol
(I still don't like it.)

That's what's happening in our neck of the woods. How was your weekend?
Thanks for stopping!

Candlewick Dishes

I recently collected a few pieces of Candlewick depression glass dishes.

Candlewick was made by Imperial Glass. It was made from 1936 to 1984. It was made in crystal, blue, pink, yellow, black, red, cobalt blue, green and caramel. It was made both plain and etched. There were more pieces made in Candlewick than most people can count!! Seriously, there were hundreds and hundreds of different shapes. The banana bowl, snack set and punch set are some of the hardest pieces to find.

I set a simple Spring themed table in the kitchen using the Candlewick.

A bird's nest for the centerpiece.

Candlewick has a little pearl bead edging not to be confused by Boopie Glass made by Anchor Hoicking in the 50's.

Any crystal pieces go well with it.

This is the creamer and sugar bowl. Notice the creamer has a film. Does anyone know a way to clear up the film on the glass?

Outdoor Wednesday

We love to watch the birds feeding at our bird feeder every morning while we eat our breakfast.
They can act so playful and territorial at times. We've had cardinals, blue birds, blue jays, doves and little chick-a-dees so far this year.

See the children's fort in the next yard. Notice it has red and blue water gun sticking out of it.......sometimes at a glance we think it's a blue jay or cardinal. lol (click to enlarge)

They come in rain, snow and cold weather.

Thanks for stopping by and have a good week!
