Highchair Makeover

Here's a project that I posted a while ago, but many of you have not seen it.

This first picture is almost 35 yrs. old. Our first daughter was celebrating her first birthday in the highchair that was given to me at a baby shower given in her honor. The plastic cover came with the chair. Three years later our second daughter sat in the same chair with a different cover that we bought. Since then two grand daughters have used it and one grandson.

This was the chair with a different vinyl cover that our grandson used. (It's very hard to find a cover for the old wooden chairs that have winged sides). When our fourth grandchild was born, Hubby and I started looking at the worn tray and decided to redo the chair and cover.

Out came the sewing machine . I was going to do the sewing and Hubby was going to do the sanding and painting. I started measuring and doing the seat cushion .

In this pic was cutting the sides of the back and the batting to give it some padding .

Meanwhile, Hubby was doing his part.... sanding the chair.

We decided to paint it with exterior satin black paint. ( Our dining room has a lot of black accents and that is where it usually sits.)

The transformation is starting to take place. We were so pleased with how it turned out and how inexpensive the project was. I got the material as a remnant that cost & 4 a yd. It didn't take much more than that.
Here it is without the tray.

With the tray.
I had to make ten ties for the cushions there were so many spindles to attach them to.

It co-ordinates well with the runners I made a couple a while back.

What have you been up to lately? I would love to see some of your projects.

I'm joining Kim @Savvy Southern Style for Wow us Wednesdays! Be sure to stop by her gorgeous blog and see lots of inspiring blogs!

First off, I want to say, I was sorry to hear your hubby had been ill. So glad things are better. Thank you for stopping by and letting me know. I get so busy and am slow to get around, but good friends like you keep me informed and I appreciate that so much. Prayers for your hubby.

Oh wow is that hugh chair gorgeous, and you know I love that fabric. I have drapes and all the accessories in that very same fabric that I used in a bedroom in the past. Currently I am using pillows in that design in my villa room. I love the high chair painted bladk. The picture of your daughter in the chair is adorable. What memories that chair has. Beautiful redo. You are way talented!! Have a great weekend.
Hugs, Celestina Marie

Hi Rose! Oh, what a darling little high chair and it's filled with memories. Love the makeover! I redid an old wooden highchair for my little grand daughter and would never have thought of using black! The black looks wonderful. Now aren't you the smartest one making your own cushions? Love that fabric! You and your hubby made a great pair! :)

Everything about this post is so special. The fact that you have had the chair in the family so long, the fact that you and your hubby worked on it together.. and it is so gorgeous redone.
Have a pretty day!

Wow, a lot of memories in that chair. It looks pretty all dressed up. Thanks for joining WUW.

Hi Rose,
I remember this post and loved it then and still do. The fabric you used is one of my favorites as I have several pieces in curtain panels, napkins, chair cover and pillows etc.
We have very similar taste as you noted with my kitchen chandy. I love it too. Ours has 9 lights and hubs put it on a 3 way dimmer. We also have the matching down pendants over the bar and a ceiling light inside the stove top.

Hope you are doing great and enjoying some warmer days. You asked about my arm. It still is problematic off and on. Let's me know when to stop working!! LOL

Love the highchair and seeing the makeover again. It sure gives me some inspiration for my laundry room makeover soon. You are one talented girl!!

Have a great weekend ahead.
Hugs, Celestina Marie XO
