Fried Chicken

Kentucky Fried Chicken--that is! It has been around a loooong time! On our way to MI we made two stops. One was to the original site of Kentucky Fried Chicken. It's in Corbin, KY. We planned it so we would be there by lunch time. It's a cute diner with some updates and with some oldies.

The history is very interesting. The Colonel did not start that particular business until 65. Some other business ventures left him broke. He took his first Social Security check and started KFC. I think it was around $450.00.

Here we are just passing time with the Colonel, himself. lol

They used to serve breakfast on real china. They are displayed in the lobby in a case.

They kept his office, desk and his office machines just as they were in 1940's. Check out the adding machine, phone and jute box.

It was sweltering in Kentucky, as much as it was in SC. We were taking the heat with us. We couldn't escape it. lol
Next stop was the Creation Museum near Florence, KY. We have heard about it for years and have seen it on a TV program. I have to say it was impressive.

It's a large facility and very well done. This dinosaur stands in the front outside.

They have botanical gardens and a petting Zoo.

They have many church and school tours. Being summer it was not that bad though.

They have movies, exhibits and a planetarium there.

We left there and went to the quaint little town of Waynesville full of cute shops---and did just that---SHOPPED.
I have lots of pictures of our MI trip so stay tuned.
Thanks for stopping by. Love to hear from you!

I cannot believe how many posts I've missed! My children would love to see that museum, well maybe my son. My daughter is now 17 and such a teenager! I love your wedding photos! How beautiful! And yes, your sister's back yard is beautiful and you and your hubby look so beautiful sitting there! I hope you had a great anniversary!

What fun! I love the picture of you and your hubby with the Colonel! I still love my little chicken tenders from KFC! :)
Looks like a wonderful museum too.
Hope you're doing well. We've just returned from a trip and I've been up to my elbows in dirty laundry! :) ugh!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia :)

Hi Girlfriend,
What a great trip. So glad you are home safe and sound. I had so much fun catching up and starting with your wedding pics. You two are just are gorgeous now and back then. Yes, I remember the shoe store TM and we also had cherry nut cake for our wedding cake.
Your dress was gorgeous and what a beautiful couple you are together.
Many more happy years together.

I also remember when our town got the first Kentucy Fried Chicken store. It was a big hit. I enjoyed seeing the history of the start with the Colonel. He sure had a vision. The Museum looks like it was fun too.

The heat is still here and between soaring temps and light rain now and then, it gets even hotter.
We are taking our vacation starting Friday. Can't wait to take a break.
So nice to see you. Glad you had a great time with your family. Love the pic of you two in your sister's backyard.(she has a gorgeous yard) Your matching outfits really make a great pic. You should frame that one in honor of your 40th.

Hugs, Celestina Marie

Looks like a lot of fun! I've never heard of the creation museum but it looks really interesting - and how can you beat KFC for a spot on your trip!!:)

The KFC info was fun - Kristen has worked there off and on since she was in high school - is there now while she's working on her degree. Hope she doesn't have to be there much longer!

Sorry about the heat - I couldn't take it!! I was pleasantly surprised with the lack of humidity in Minnesota when I was there last week!

Thanks for sharing your vacation photos with us, a good way for some of us to vacation vicariously in spots we otherwise wouldn't get to!

Looks like such fun!

Very interesting facts about the colonel. I had hoped we could get back to Michigan this summer, but it's not looking too promising. I'll have to enjoy your pictures and pretend I'm there :).
Have a nice weekend and stay cool, if that's possible.

Oh my- you were shopping just 7 miles from me when you were in Waynesville. It is a cute little village. Many of the shops have closed, however, but I have a couple of favorites that I like to visit. I like to take visitors there and on down to Lebanon for a bite to eat at the historic Golden Lamb Restaurant. Thanks for stopping by for a visit and a sweet comment on my blog. Hope you'll come by again sometime.
