Sprucing up a Few Things

I've been getting the house back to "normal" little by little. I left the snowmen out, as I mentioned in the last post but I hadn't gotten the groupings together right yet.
We went to a home show at our expo center last Friday and got some great ideas. We also picked up a few pine cones from Lake Tahoe. They are from the Ponderosa Pines. They are huge compared to the small ones on the ground here. They are picky, like you wouldn't believe. We put them on the mantle with Mr. & Mrs. Snow. I had to get some height in those red candle holders to balance things out. Mr. & Mrs. Snow are quite tall.
We didn't get the cones when we first saw them and my sweet hubby went back and surprised me with six of them.

I did a grouping on the pass through between the kitchen and great room. The big guy is a cookie jar.

I found him on clearance a couple of weeks ago for $7. He had two chips in his scarf around the neck. I tell some of the girls in my decorating class not to pass up things that are slightly damaged because paint covers a multitude of sins. lol (Notice the white chipped out spots?)

I took my paints and had to mix a couple of them to get the right green and red but it works so well. My hubby couldn't find the spots at first.

I moved my gourd snowman to the front staircase and grouped him with some snowballs and a little playmate. They are there to greet you when you come to visit.

I did another group on the sofa table in the great room.

I have been busy giving my garage a bit of a makeover. Whew, I can't believe how much junk you can accumulate in 7 years. My motto was if we hadn't used it in that time... it was tossed.
What have you been up to? Would love to hear about it.
Thanks for stopping!

Hi!! Love your snowmen and especially the pine cones on the mantel. Very nice. I did keep my snowmen up also and even my mantel. But I replaced all my red candles the other day with my normal blue. I'm thinking of taking the mantel down but I love sitting in the living room with the lights on.

I'm doing okay. Having a hard time adjusting and missing my husband. Finding it hard to blog about it and put my feelings into words. But my cousin sent me that cute funny story and I thought it would be fun to share with everyone.

Thanks for your kind words!!!

The pinecones are great and look really nice with the snowpeople. Great trick with the paint on the cookie jar. Which type of paint do you find works best? I love your snowman and snowballs on the steps.
I am continuing my mission to lighten up the house. This weekend we tackled the file cabinet. Three bags of shredded papers went out with the trash last night. It was a great feeling :-)
Enjoy your week.

So beautiful Rose! Love your precious snow family.

It's been a quiet Holiday for us. It's much warmer too. A chicken is in the oven and the house smells FANTASTIC. Mmmm...:)

Great snowman collection! You would be proud of me - just today I used a black Sharpie pen and touched up some nics on a chipped plate I bought on sale at Home Goods last week!

I do love those huge pine cones. We went to visit our son who is a ski patrol at Mammoth lakes Calif and the are was just loaded with those huge pinecones. I collected a huge box of them and asked David to bring them back when he came down in the spring. For some reason he didn't think I needed as many as I collected so only brought 12 or so. I had so many plans for those pine cones!! WEll maybe this year he will bring me a few more!

Hi there, I just popped over from Lois's blog and so glad I did. Boy you and I have a lot in common-I too love snowmen, still have mine out too. We used to live in Ca. and last time we visited guess what I got bags of-Ponderosa pines. Love your posts and will be back again.
Hugs, Noreen
