Childhood Memories

Welcome to Show & Tell
Kelli asked us to Post a childhood keepsake and I picked my doll.

This the only doll I have left that belonged to me as a child. She was so special when I got her and the latest thing to have a doll that could drink and wet. -- I know I'm dating myself. -- That was more than 40 some years ago. My sister and I played with her as did my two daughters and now my granddaughters. She still is holding her own. (smile) She has tight curly hair and her eyes close when she lays down. She doesn't have shoes anymore, poor thing. She does have more than one outfit though but they are not the originals.

Two more outfits to change into.
This is a homemade Cabbage Patch doll. I made it when I couldn't afford to buy the original ones. Our girls each got one with the color of their eyes painted on, by me. My oldest daughter has hers, for her two little girls. Here's the other one.

This is my daughters Raggedy Ann that is about 32 years old
All these things stay in the "kids closet"at my house. Some sit up high on a quilt rack I wasn't using anymore but within reach when the kids are here for a visit.

Thanks for visiting today, can't wait to see all your posts.

I love your old dolly. I have a weakness for them!

I had a homemade cabbage patch doll also. She was my favorite until I got the "real" ones. :)

I have a ragedy ann just like that, just with a different dress. My aunt was in high school when I was born and she made it for me in home ec class. :) So my doll is about 30 years old. :)

Hi Ro!

What a darling collections of dolls! And they are so meaningful too. I don't have any dolls saved from my childhood - your post made me miss a big fat red doll that I had growing up that was almost as big as I was...

It is so neat that you were able to preserve the dolls from all those years ago.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks also for leaving the lovely comment on my peacock quilt.

I love your dolls! I love dolls! I had a homemade Cabbage Patch doll as well. I got her when I was about 20 years old! My MIL was making them for sale and made me one for Christmas. Your kids closet must be a "dream come true" for you grandchildren! It looks magical!

What a neat place to store and play. I had a doll similar to this one. I think mine came in kit panties and a t-shirt that snapped. I kept her fo many years. I had her when my children were little.
I have made Raggadys for years. I made one for three nieces, 2 grandnieces, and my 2 granddaughters. I have a Raggady Andy that I made. I made many and sold them.
I have a cabbage patch doll that I adopted for myself. She has several outfits.
Thanks for sharing.

this is the sweetest. I am a huge doll lover and collector and I make dolls too!! They are so special to us aren't they? That is really a blessing you have a doll from your childhood. Unfortunatley my mom didn't save things like that. I do though. I love that you have a special place for when your kiddies come to play.. very nice, Hugs, Mica

That is great that your doll has survived so much play! We have a Raggedy Ann similar to the one you showed. She actually ended up with Orange hair, and a styling dress that was green floral print with gold ric rac trim.

Oh how sweet! I wish I had some of my old dolls, but between several moves and having four younger sisters, I don;t know of anything survived -- if it did, it is in the recesses of my mom's attic! I think it is neat that you have a closet like that for your grandchildren.

Those Raggedy dolls remind me when my oldest was born i made a Ann and an Andy and sometimes she would wear the clothes i made. I liked those dolls but don't have a clue where they are now. One doll I had as a child was a small wetums doll that got so old it rotted but i still miss it silly huh!

Thanks for stopping by my S&T. I love having new visitors.

I always told my daughter that if I could find a Cabbage Patch doll for $15, I'd get her one. Then I found a lady here in town who made them and they looked so much like the real thing - they were $15! Remember the madness at Target when a new shipment came in - crazy!!
