New Lighting

It's time to join Susan @Between Naps on the Porch for Metamorphosis Monday. Be sure to pop over for lots of inspiration.

We've lived in our house a few years now and had two light fixtures that still had not been replaced. We had replaced every other fixture that the builders installed but these hung 18 ft high and we had not bothered with them until now that is.
Here's what hung in the foyer when the house was built. Not bad-- but our decor was a bit different.

This is the new one and it suits our style a little better.

We added a medallion to embellish the space on the ceiling.

This was not an easy task! One man had to balance this thing while the other man took the old one loose and did the wiring for the new one. Not to mention centering the medallion. lol
I was on the upper landing telling them when to shift it right or left.
They gave me the look a few times! lol

We put the chandy on a timer and it's so nice to see it lit when you're coming home or company arrives.

This is the other fixture that hung in the great room that is also two stories. Having a fan to push air (hot or cold) is a plus so we opted for another fan to replace this one.

White was not my cup of tea for this room. It's always been on the to do list but got pushed back til now.

Here's the new one installed.

It even has up lights that shine upward.

We added new controls on the wall to adjust speed and a dimmer.

Thanks for stopping and always for letting me know you did so I can return the visit.
Till next time, have a great week!

We had a fixture very similar to yours in our foyer and I finally got my hubby to change it out a year ago. We also changed out the white ceiling fan in our great room. Your new chandy and medallion look great and the new fan looks much better than the white one. WE have to move air in our great room too. It gets too hot in there in the afternoons in the summer. I know everyone seems to not like ceiling fans any more, but sometimes they are just more pratical.

Your new light fixtures are wonderful! That is always the first thing I notice in a room. I say it is always well worth changing them out. It is such a simple change that often gets overlooked. I can certainly understand the height issues this change posed for you though! Love your choices!

Your new chandy and medallion look fantastic! What a change! We had an antique light fixture hung in our entry way and during the installation, the guy dropped the glass globe and broke it in a million pieces. Needless to say, we're on the lookout for another entry way light now too!

The new fan seems to fit so nicely with your decor. We replaced our fans last year, just needed to update a bit. We changed from brass to oil rubbed bronze. So so much better!

Your lighting changes are GORGEOUS! What a big difference! We are needing to replace our entry light too and I know that is no easy task! You picked the perfect ones and I absolutely want to run right out and buy a new one for my entry now! :-)

Your new chandy is beautiful and looks perfect hanging in it's new home. I can imagine that was a big job for those who had to hang it. Good thing you were on hand to make sure it was done correctly. LOL. I like the idea of having it on a timer. I'm trying to think how you would do that with a chandy?
The new fan is also lovely. I had not heard of one with uplights. What a neat idea. We recently had to replace a ceiling fan on an 18 ft. ceiling. Since all fans in the house are white, that is what we needed. They are hard to come by these days. But, we did manage to find one.

Love both your fixtures. They look really good. That is something I really need to do.

Your chandelier is so beautiful, the medallion really gives it an elegant touch. Your ceiling fan looks much richer, too.

HI Rose,
I just love the changes you made, just beautiful. I have had a few looks given to me too, while trying to get things changed. lol We need to change ours, but that is way down on our lists of to-do. I also like having the foyer light on a timer, I might add that to my list too. Thanks for sharing.
Hope your week is filled with many blessings.
Hugs,
Sue

Hi Girlfriend,
Oh I love all your new fixtures and chandy. The ceiling medallion is gorgeous.
It is awesome how just changing out a few lights can make such a difference. I know it is a challenge to install when they are up so high. We also did the very same thing. New chandy in the staircase and fans all around in more of a tuscan and iron look. I love it. It made me nervous with my hubby up so high on the ladder and doing a balancing act to take one light down and bring up the new one.

Your home is just beautiful and I always enjoy to see your latest accents and additions.
I know you enjoy the process.

Hope you have a good week and enjoying the Autumn days.
Hugs and Blessings,
Celestina Marie

I have very similar fixture issues. Our great room fan needs to be replaced with something different and the fixture in our 2 story foyer looks almost identical to yours. Not our taste, either. I'll probably be giving the workers my input and the "eye" just like you did. It's a long way up and I know those fixtures can get heavy! I saw some things I liked when I was at the market but want to look locally before I make a decision.
