Projects & More Projects

It's been busy around our house with Spring projects. How about at your house?

Remember this room? I posted it recently in my exercise post.

I decided to give it a bit of a redo. You see--hubby just officially retired--which means he needed a little get away space to read, study, make calls, watch his sports and take an occasional nap. lol
This chair was not very comfy and a little "girlish" for him. I moved this chair back into our bedroom.

So, I picked out some material and got out the sewing machine and made a few changes.

I got out my paints and brushes and went to work.

I took apart a print we picked out in New Bern, NC when we went sailing there. I needed to change the mat colors. Yes, you can paint your mats. I do it all the time. This was a little difficult since it had been professionally matted but still doable. Just take off the paper on the back very carefully and you can glue it back on.

This is what it looks like semi-put together.

Glue the paper back and screw the wire on.

New gingham checked curtains that are simple to make, new cushion on the hope chest, a couple of throw pillows, and new chair cover and oh--let's not forget the new recliner for sweet hubby. It glides, swivels and reclines. He's in his glory. lol
He gave me that hope chest on my 16th birthday and Ceekay @ Thinkin' of Home would kill me if I got rid of it. She 's a real sentimental gal. (smile)

It's still a multi-purpose room that I use for exercising, sewing, painting or ironing. We rarely are in there at the same time.
lol

We have nautical accents and anything red, white and blue in there.

I had an anchor monogram put on the pillow and tufted the cover with red buttons.

Hubby hasn't had much time to use his chair--- yet. I'm keeping him busy with a list of projects, like the one below.
He just finished scraping all the wrought iron patio furniture and repainting it.
After a couple of years it needs to be done again. It gets those little rust areas or starts to peel.

He really is a hard worker.

There was furniture everywhere. lol He sprayed my hooks, big urn, clock etc.

Today, we were on to another project--the patio. It needed to be cleaned and resealed. What a job. Thankfully we had help. That's for another post.
Hope your week has been a good one!

The room looks great. I would have never thought to paint a mat, but I will remember that good idea. Thanks for sharing. It doesn't look like your husband will be bored in his retirement :-)

Your re-done room looks wonderful - you are very clever and ambitious. My dad would love your patriotic look in the room.

Yes, he will have a busy "retirement!"

Oh, your room, well, your hubby's room looks great! Love the colors of red, white and blue. Now isn't he the sweetest one painting all of the iron things for you! Now did his finger fall off? I always get such a sore finger from spray painting.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)

What a beautiful job, you did, this explains where you have been lately. I love the colors too. But you answered my question, I was going to ask you if your husband was reclining while you were exercising. lol
We are so blessed to have husbands that help us. God is so good.
Thanks for sharing.
Hugs,
Sue

Looks great! You mentioned Occoquan in your comment! How cool!! Before moving to this new home (in Nov.), we lived about five minutes from Occoquan and, yes, I was a "regular" at the Occoquan Days craft show...as a buyer!!:) What type of booth did you have??

We now live a bit further out...but I still like to make it over there to browse - esp. on a pretty day like we have been having lately!!

Make sure to let me know if you are ever in this neck of the woods again!!:)

The room looks inviting! I'm very partial to the red paint since my kitchen is painted in a similar shade.

Beautiful job all around!

WOW what amazing redos you have done. I love it all. Your red, white and blue is wonderful and I like what you did with the art work painting the matt. I have always painted them too when I change decor etc. It saves money and getting the right size.

I am always so inspired with your decor.
We too have been extremely busy inside and out.
I am having a giveaway if you'd like to stop by.
Hope all is well and you are enjoying the Spring time and warmer days.
Have a great afternoon.
Hugs, Celestina Marie

Work around a house is never done. That is great that you made the room work better for him, too. I almost dread the day my husband retires, but at least he has his car restoration hobby down in his garage.
