The Necessary Room

In the past, a few have commented on the wallpaper in my powder room when I showed a clock hanging on the wall in there. ( previous post on clocks)

I thought now would be a good time to show that room and tell the story behind the wallpaper.

I begged my hubby to help me put up wallpaper in there. He said, " Let's just paint it." We have done lots of wallpapering in previous houses but this time we did mostly painting.

He finally relented and I found a paper I really liked and brought it home and we dove into the project. The ceiling is 9ft high, so I stayed under the ladder working on the bottom half of the sheet while he stayed up working on the upper half. He started rubbing and said, "It's not sticking," and I said, " Just keep rubbing". He said, "IT'S NOT STICKING ," and I said, "JUST KEEP RUBBING". Well, this went on for a while, as I was rubbing my half. He said, "I'M RUBBING THE PATTERN OFF!"

We took that piece down and tried one more then called the wallpaper store and was told to cut a piece from a second roll and see if it felt pasty. Needless to say, it wasn't! We took it all back and had to get a different wallpaper. (They said this happens every once in a while.)

The new pattern is the one in the pics and honestly I like it so much better than the first.

Hubby said never again---but don't you know, he forgot " NEVER SAY NEVER"!

Com on in! I would say," And sit awhile, but we don't want anyone banging on the door, do we?"

I got this very tall painting at Tuesday Morning. It was damaged and marked down and then took an additional percentage off, as well. With my painting background, I just took my paints and matched the colors of the birds and frame and fixed it right up. I was so happy that I found it, as the paper has birds all over it.

I tried in this next pic to show the height of it.

This shows the toile pattern in gold and red.

They say you shouldn't forget the fifth wall (ceiling) so we painted it a light gold and put up crown molding.

Thanks for visiting today. Have a wonderful weekend with your family!

What a lovely job you did on the bathroom. I can just imagine how flustrating that was with the unpasted wallpaper :o( My husband and I use to laughingly say our marriage could only handle one wallpapering project a year!!!!
That picture is so perfect. What a find.

simply beautiful, Ro. I used to have Toile wallpaper in my previous house too in the kitchen, the hallway. Toile just brings joy to my eyes. The walls are WAY to high for where we live now... so, I doubt I would have any wallpaper... :(

What a lovely room! We've wallpapered a lot and have gone back to just painting for a wall, but a great wallpaper can just make a room, and that one does. And that painting goes so well! I am glad you were able to fix it up. The ceiling looks wonderful, too. I can't imagine th frustration if trying to wallpaper only to realize there's no paste!

You didn't mention that the clock is willed to your very best friend!
I do love that wallpaper..The wall papering reminds me of when we laid floor tile in our upstairs apartment. I did not think we would see our 3rd year of marriage!

It's beautiful!!!!!

I can't imagine being so patient as you were tho...I would have been so mad that there was no paste/glue on it. Guess that's life, tho, huh?

It's gorgeous.

That is a beautiful powder room! I just love Toile and especially red and yellow.

Ron said "don't ever ask me to wallpaper again" after he helped me re-do a bathroom in my condo. We got it from Home Depot and they short-ordered BOTH patterns. I was a you-know-what...poor Ron! A few weeks later, he proposed

I am ooohhhing and ahhhing, I too have done so much wall papering in my day that I just prefer to paint but you have reminded me how beautiful it can be. Simply beautiful, I want to go and redo my bathroom now, I wonder if my husband is busy this weekend :).

What a beautiful bathroom! This is the second unusual bathroom in today's S&T - Hootin' Annie showed hers, too. I have done all the papering in our house alone - I heard it's hard on marriages! But I don't think my arms could take it any more, and all the walls need to be redone.

Thanks for coming over today!

Your wallpapered bathroom is just exquisite! Nice work. How lucky to have such a nice hubby that is willing to help you in those endeavors. It's so nicely decorated, too.

Beautiful. I love the wallpaper. I did a lot of wallpapering in the house we lived in before we moved here. Hubby helped with it, but I did most of it. I was much younger then.

The wallpaper is beautiful, and the painting is perfect there! The other paper problem was a blessing in disguise, wasn't it!

Those colors would go well in my house!
