Another Year Gone By

Thirty nine years ago I changed my name. Yes, I got married!
We're celebrating another year together. It's been an unbelievable journey. At 18, I had no idea what the years would bring. It's been richer and poorer, in sickness and in health and God has sustained us through it all.

Vowing to make his people my people and follow him wherever life leads us.

Well, we've changed some, that's for sure but still enjoying the years God has given us together.

Blowing Rock

I've wanted to post the 4th of July that we spent in Blowing Rock. Though it's been a week and half, I hope it's not too late.
We stayed at the Maple Lodge B&B. It's located right in town so you can walk to shops and eateries. A lovely old house that has 12 rooms to rent.

Everyday was a full hot breakfast that was served at our table. This side buffet had oatmeal, muffins, breads. etc. that you could help yourself to before the breakfast was served at 8 a.m. They also put out goodies in the afternoon for all who wanted snacks.

We walked to the town square on the 4th and a Gospel group was playing.

A realtor has his business in a historical house in town. Every year he supplies the hot dogs, chili, chips, and lemonade for all and I mean all who want to eat. I don't know how he plans to have enough, not knowing how many townspeople or visitors will be there but he seemed to be feeding all who came without a problem.

The lines went quickly and we were happy to join the fun.

We hurried over to find a spot to watch the parade. Lots of people, cars, and horses.

Here came the Uncle Sam's. I didn't know we had more than one did you? lol

We loved all the old cars.

After a full day of fun, sun, and food we came back to this to crash. It was a lot of fun.

A Man of Many Hats

Literally! We went into a shop in Blowing Rock, NC and in the back of the store there was a hat for every occasion. My hubby is such cut up! He started trying on one of each kind. I had my camera handy so I started snapping away.
The Fonz gone western! He had me laughing so hard it was hard to keep snapping. I'll only bore you with some of the best ones. lol

We were gathering a crowd and everyone was having a good laugh. We left the shop and Hubs saw this sign. It pretty much sums up the day!

Fresh Fruit and Veggies

There's nothing like home grown tomatoes and fresh fruit for the summer months. We are enjoying the taste, smell and color of our tomatoes this year. We only have a couple of containers but they are yielding more than we can eat for the two of us.


They taste so much better than the store bought ones.

They look like a tomato compared to the light colored ones in the store. Why is that? They are much more juicy, as well.We have a pineapple just about every week. Hubs likes to cut them up for us. They are so sweet and good. We bought a pineapple slicer from Pampered Chef. Though pricey it has been a great investment.

He loves the way everything is done for him. lol

He took all these pics and told me they were for my blog. He's catching on, isn't that sweet?

It's great with granola, fruit and nuts in the mornings.

We have had 6 watermelons since the summer began. We keep some in the frig. in the kitchen and some in our frig. in our bedroom sitting area. It's always on hand. lol

Guest Bedroom

Hi Everyone! I hope you had a safe, restful and fun holiday.

We went back to the mountains to enjoy the cool weather and festivities. It's just gorgeous there. With the elevation at 3600 ft. and some places higher, it's 25 degrees cooler than at home. I will post the beautiful flowers and some of the town later this wk.

Do you remember our last trip there and we purchased a few items. This table came from a little antique shop. This cute little plaque came from Melissa's Heart and Home

Well..... I decided to use them in one of the guest rooms. I love the plaque above the bed. It says "There's no Place like Home" Dorothy

The table is being used as a night stand.

We purchased a couple of new mirrors for the room. This one came from Home Goods and is behind the door.

We purchased this Bombay Chest in Hudson, NC. It's the area that has furniture stores for 20 miles or more at extreme discount prices. I can't stress that enough. This came from Hammary's, a division of Lazy Boy. It was $800 less than in the stores. Yes, they are all new pieces.

We put a round mirror from Kirkland above it.

The mirror has some gold detailing around the edges.

Here in the south, ceiling fans are a must to help save on the utility bills in the summer. This one has a remote for guest to adjust the light or fan from the comfort of the bed.

I'm happy how everything came together in this room. It's just waiting for the next guest to arrive.

The Mountains of Boone, NC

It's only a few hrs. from our house to Boone, NC. The elevation is so high it's sometimes 20 to 30 degrees colder than at our house. Many Floridians have summer homes there. The scenery is beautiful and shopping is great in-between here and there.

We try to go there a couple of times a year. This is a quaint Bed and Breakfast that we stayed in once. The owner lives next door in a little log house.

Let's take a walk up the drive, shall we.

It's an old farm house converted into a B&B.

There were lots of pretty flowers on the property.

It was a lovely place to stay and Hubby and I had it all to our selves. Others had just checked out and we had just arrived. You can't beat that!

This next two pics are part of the LR and DR where we ate breakfast.

There were some antiques and some updated pieces. Very nicely decorated and clean.

We had the run of the house and could use the kitchen at will and help ourselves to a stocked frig.
We went shopping at the oldest operating Country Store in America. The original Mast General Store, located in Valles Cruies, NC in the Blue Ridge Mtns. It is extremely old, and looks it, yet it's open everyday. It started operating in 1883.

There is an operating post office inside.

The boards on the bldg. are waving and the building is resting on cinder blocks. You would think it's going to fall looking at it.lol

We shopped at a local antique store where the clerk had on a outfit from Lily's and I just had to take a picture for Miss Janice.

The views of the mtns. are incredible and very evident of God's handiwork. This is a view from my friend's deck and the valley below.

We stopped in Blowing Rock for lunch and the town's flowers were in abundant.

We found an old Mission that was turned into a restaurant and had lunch there. It was down a long path from the street, which hubby is standing on below.

It was gated and such a neat place off the trodden path. Very good food.

There is more than 20 miles of furniture outlets on the way up to Boone in Hickory, Granite Falls, Hudson and more towns. There is Broyhill, LazyBoy, Bassett and many more companies represented there at prices that can't be touched in local stores. You pay no sales tax but you have shipping charges unless you can take the item with you.

I'll post real soon and show you some of the deals we walked away with.
