Here it is Oct. and I never posted Part II of our Mackinac Island trip this summer. I actually was waiting for my dear brother-in-law to send me the disc with these pictures on it.
He's a busy Dr. and it took him some time to get to it. Now mind you, he would not have had to do this if my husband had charged our camera battery the night before, as I had asked him to do. ---But that's another story. lol
Here we are sitting on the 660 ft. long front porch of the Grand Hotel. It is purportedly the longest in the world. The hotel was built in the late 19th century.
Famous guests such as, Mark Twain, Thomas Edison , US Presidents and many movie actors have stayed there.
The classic movie "Somewhere in Time" with Christopher Reeves and Jane Seymour was made there.
Beautifully set on Lake Huron in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
The Island is beautifully maintained. No cars are allowed on the Island. You get around by carriage, horse back or bicycle. It is too gorgeous to put into words!
We are standing at an entrance to the hotel grounds right before we went in to have lunch.
If you ever get a chance to visit this Island, you will not be disappointed. They close everything down in the winter months because the lakes freeze over. They have a minumum amount of maintaince people who stay for the winter and use snowmobiles to get to the mainland. Most residents are there for summer months only.

This is a view from the porch overlooking the water.
The entrance where the carriages drop you off.
We were getting ready to leave and go into the town to shop.
This is one of the lobbies.
Thanks for your visit today. I love hearing from you and will be making my rounds to you soon!

P.S. - Those candy corn cups came from Walgreen's last year. They had them again this year too.
What a beautiful place! I have heard of it before, the fact that there are no cars - must be so peaceful. Can you imagine the fall foliage right now??
I just finished Part 5 of our trip - we really did so much in such a short time, that I never realized it would take so many days to write it all. I love seeing pictures of where all my blogging friends go on their trips!
SOLD - if you were on commission for vacation packages...you would be tops salesman:) The pictures are fantastic. I know Hubbie and I would love a vacation weekend there! Hmmm......
Rose, what a beautiful place, I would have had a hard time leaving. lol Though I do love to come home after a trip. You have really been blessed to have visited so many wonderful places, and oh the memories that have been made. Thanks for sharing, aren't we having beautiful weather here in the south.

Hi Ro,
I simply love your pics and part 2 of your Island vacation. So nice to see, now that we will be gearing for winter in the near future.
It is a beautiful place. You captured the settings wonderfully.
Thank you for stopping by and your kind comment. Yes, we had a great time last week and I look forward to a visit there again. Don't worry about calling. I have been too busy to call too. It is a busy time for us all. Just enjoy your company and have a great time together. We will catch up when we can and till then, blessings to you and your sweet family.
Big Texas Hugs,
Celestina Marie
Believe it or not there are about 500 of us who live on Mackinac year-round. I've been on the island almost 20 years and I can't imagine living anywhere else!
OMG This place is still looks amazing, even after the many times I see pictures of it! Maybe someday we'll visit. Mr. S just loved the Somewhere In Time movie! You really must have enjoyed yourselves to no end. Glad you had pics from your BIL.
:-) Sue
It was well worth the wait. Beautiful pictures. I must make it a point to get there again next time I go to Michigan.
I always heard this is a beautiful place to visit and your pictures prove it!
Hi,
I just wandered into your blog because I saw you had a M. Island post. I live just 1.5 hours away from the island.
Upon arriving here, I noticed your header pic of your family room. I just LOVE that room.
I would be so pleased if you could tell me the paint you used for the gorgeous walls. I have been wanting to paint mine aqua, but I have been afraid it would be too dark. After seeing yours, now I really want to do it!
I am going to have to come back to see all of your other rooms.
