Show & Tell

I was in my office just finishing up a Bible Study on the Life of David for our ladies Bible Study.
I was thinking and looking around to see what I could do for show and tell Friday. Setting next to me is an old Library table that I found at yet another estate sale many, many years ago. We used it as a kitchen table at our previous house with the old china cabinet (from previous post).
Our youngest daughter threatened me not to get rid of it when we moved here. She would love to have it. She's going to have to wait a while longer, though (smile) . A friend of hers has one in their kitchen and they use an ice pick to carve visitors name into the wood. I couldn't stand the thought, so we've left ours as is. I'm going to have to have her sign a legal document not to use it for that after I'm gone. Not that I would know anyway but I could threaten to haunt her. (smile)
Well here is where we decided to use it at this house and keep it safe from Sarah.

A friend of mine made the curtains and decided to make chair covers for our old kitchen chairs. She even made them reversible . It doesn't hurt that she teaches home economics.

The drawers in the table are 2 1/2 ft. long. You have to be careful pulling them out.

What a lovely table. No wonder your daughter wants it. I don't blame you for making her wait for it though. Besides, it will just make her appreciate it more.
Thank you for sharing.

I understand why you deleted my comment. I also deleted your return comment although it probably wasn't necessary. Why take chances. You will probably want to delete this one too.
Hugs and blessings.

I'm completely with you. I think the idea of a table with names carved is really cute at first glance, but it feels abusive to towards the table.

there are a lot of people out there who could be hired to build a table for just that purpose. There is an industry for that sort of thing. Is that sort of thing even legal in your state?

Save your table and keep it nice.

So you ask her to sign the document but film it and put it on YouTube, allowing all of your blogging pals to link the youtube video on their blogs. The agreement could stipulate that she will update the video yearly so that bloggers are able to see that the table is being loved and is well cared for. If not, she will forfit the agreement and turn the table over to furniture services where it will be placed into foster furniture care until an appropriate home with good polish can be found.

Beautiful table. When we moved I changed the function of many of our pieces of furniture to fit in our new house better. You are very lucky to have to have a home ec teacher friend. The curtains are lovely.

From Sarah, the daughter:
I promise not to take a pick ax to the table. :-) However, the carvings on that friend's table give that family sweet memories of the guests in their home from years gone bye.
Thank you for not selling this piece and keeping it for me!
